The Bohemia is unique. At first glance, it appears to be made of blown glass—but its size made this option untenable. Its designer, Joan Gaspar, overcame this difficult challenge by opting for polycarbonate instead.
The result is an exciting, organic, translucent profile that integrates two volumes into a single shape. This allows for a large shade in different colors that don’t interfere with the interior, which is always white, giving of impeccable lighting with no color bleed.
When it’s on, the Bohemia shines a white light downward, while also enhancing the shade with subtle hues and shadows. This interplay between shadow and light defines the two volumes. The Bohemia is bright and striking, with an exceptional light that aims to surprise all viewers.
Process of the Bohemia
La Bohemia is a large lamp that looks like it’s made of blown glass, although it’s made of polycarbonate. Its organic and translucid profile contains two volumes within a single shape, a design that would be impossible to achieve using glass.
The mould that gives shape to la Bohemia is divided into two parts precisely so that this unique design, which combines concave and convex forms, can be extruded. It is at this point that a small seam, inherent to its manufacturing process is inevitably created in the lamp. Our hope is for whoever uses la Bohemia to view this line as a signature of this complex process, a subtle distinguishing feature that helped bring la Bohemia from concept to reality.
